Deep Sea Game Fishing Gibraltar

Because of its unique place in the overall scheme of things, the way in which Gibraltar is situated in the world, Gibraltar fishing is among the best in the world and for the most part, there are amazing opportunities for big game fishing nearly year round.

The varying months of the year will offer unique big game fishing to the angler. A serious or an amateur angler will find fishing in Gibraltar a dream come true, with big game fish visiting Gibraltar waterways, of multiple varieties year round.

Very few people in the world seem to look at Gibraltar as a place to get in some exciting and quality fishing, and as a whole it has often gone overlooked that Gibraltar's positioning makes it somewhere to find huge holding areas for big fish that will bring in the bigger predator fish that the serious angler wants to have a go at.

Game Fishing GibraltarThe locals fish here, as do some few who have explored the area more fully but for the most part, Gibraltar often goes overlooked as a great place to pull in some real prize fish, which is of course a good thing for those of us who are looking for some untapped treasure.

The North Mole, a breakwater that is located on the northern side of the harbor near the Spanish borders offers waters that are about 30 feet deep to start but can actually go deeper than 100 feet.

The ground below is rocky, and can offer you some loss of tackle with snags on the ever present rocks that line the grounds but your gains will be amazing, as this area holds some incredible amounts of fish of many varieties.

Your fishing in Gibraltar will give you the chance to gather in black bream, two banded bream, bass, conger eels, moral eels, mackerel, garfish and once in a while that incredible fighting fish, the bluefin tuna.

Fishing boats are easily chartered here to help you gather in some of the bigger fish, such as the bluefin or larger sea fish, while if you're interested in shore fishing, the opportunity to catch some great fish that way also exists. Just off Europa Point, beneath the lighthouse, you're going to find big bass, running from three to six pounds, and sometimes, if you're lucky, over ten pounds.

Deep Sea Fishing GibraltarIf you choose to fish Sandy Bay, which is a perfect clean bay that the locals will also fish from, it holds bass and sole that will grace your table if you're a fisherman who likes to use the catch.

Mullet also run in these waters along with the tasty red bream, schools of fish called bonito and white bream but big game fishing is where it really gets interesting.

There are large areas of bluefin that you can fish for with rod and reel, with the bluefin starting at about 20 pounds, but running right up to the actual giants of the deep that will weigh in at more than 500 pounds. The fight these guys can put up will leave you breathless and ready for a few hours rest on the shore with a smaller rod and reel. Now how's that for exciting fishing?

Broadbills, swordfish, mahi mahi and thresher sharks are just a few of the larger species you're going to have a chance to get a hook into if you fish off the coast of Gibraltar.

Gibraltar is a huge fishing area, and for the most part, strangely enough, largely untapped except by some commercial fishermen. If you're in the mood for some serious sport, don't overlook a chance to go fishing in Gibraltar. You wont forget the experience!

Fishing sounds like great fun especially with such a large variety of fish. Companies with ability to bring out 5-8 person (semi-good fishers) for a day round Gibraltar for fishing should contact kim.pomoell@hotmail.com. Much appreciated. Cheers.
