Barbary Rock AdventuresGibraltar is a highly unique, compact piece of Jurassic Limestone Rock that affords the adventurer the opportunity to experience high and low level climbing, abseiling, and gentle caving.  With a view of two continents and three countries from its highest point, there can be no denying that Gibraltar is an ideal place to secure yourself to a rope.

It has a varied collection of crags that start at sea cliff level, and progress up through the varying levels of the Rock right up to the point where you can finish a gentle climb at Gibraltar’s highest point, the 426 metre high O’Hara’s Battery.  Guided adventures offer a range of options that cater for all standards, whether a complete novice or a seasoned outdoor adventurer.

Climbing on the RockBarbary Rock Adventures is Gibraltar’s Adventure Specialists.  They offer a variety of  experiences for anyone seeking an exciting break.  With each activity tailored to the requirements and expectations of the individual, they are confident that you will not be disappointed.  They provide transport to and from the activity area, and all safety equipment; but above all else they provide highly qualified and experienced guides and instructors.  All of the equipment provided is inspected and maintained to the highest standard; use is also recorded and logged.

What adventures can you partake in?  Quite simply anything that involves using a rope, walking pole, or helmet.  Barbary Rock Adventures have a selection of areas and crags to meet the expectations of their customer.  The simplest thing to do is a leisurely day of guided climbing; this can be easy single pitch, or multi-pitch climbing.  The venues for this activity provide breathtaking views across the Straits of Gibraltar to North Africa, and along the Andalucía coastline of Spain.

Alternatively, there are two half day or evening options.  Firstly, you can experience a gentle descent into the stunning Lower St. Michael’s Cave.  This tour is an easy and highly enjoyable activity that gives the participant an unforgettable underground experience.  The culmination of which is the walk around an underground lake.  Secondly, a guided tour of the highly famous Mediterranean Steps.  The steps and paths abound with a rich collection of flora and fauna, and they are steeped in natural and military history.  As the name suggests they also offer terrific views across the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the raised beaches of the Europa flats.

Needless to say, with Barbary Rock Adventures services and the three hundred days of sunshine per year, you have a winning combination that guarantees you will have that perfect unforgettable adventure, whilst you enjoy your stay in Gibraltar, or nearby Andalucía.

Barbary Rock Views

Nearby Spain also offers the opportunity to partake in several exciting activities.  Sport climbing, abseiling, and a zip-wire at the atmospheric location of San Bartolo is an all day event, that takes place in an area of outstanding beauty.

There is also the chance to walk the Camino Del Rey ‘the world’s scariest pathway’ at El Chorro.  This is an exhilarating experience that needs specialist safety equipment, which once again is provided by Barbary Rock Adventures; this is also a full day event.

What a peaceful jewell this little cemetery is. I visited a couple of weeks ago on a stop-off with a cruise, my first visit to the cemetery. I'm so glad I did. It was fascinating to study the headstones and pay my respects. Sad, too, to see the number of children also resting there having died of fever and illness. The cemetery should be on every tourist itinerary - there's more to dear Gib than just the apes!!

Fishing sounds like great fun especially with such a large variety of fish. Companies with ability to bring out 5-8 person (semi-good fishers) for a day round Gibraltar for fishing should contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
