Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino has been named winner of the 2009 Miss World pageant in Johannesburg

 Our very own Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino has been named winner of the 2009 Miss World pageant in Johannesburg. Kaiane had also won the swimsuit round and was a favourite of the judges. Miss Mexico, Perla Beltran Acosta, was the first runner up followed by Miss South Africa, Tatum Keshwar. Apparently, Miss South Africa was the hot favourite to win the crown. Miss South Africa was a home favorite and was also a favorite at the Miss Universe Pageant that took place earlier this year. The Miss World finals also saw Miss India Pooja Chopra being crowned the Miss World “Beauty with a Purpose” title with her project for the upliftment of girls in India. Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino was also the winner of the Miss World Beach Body Fast track title earlier this month. But being the new Miss World 2009 was a big surprise to people around the world considering this is the first time that Gibraltar has ever qualified to be a finalist for the Miss World pageant. Hollywood actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra handed over the Miss World 2009 sash to Miss Gibraltar while the outgoing Miss World Ksenia Skhinova crowned her successor Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino. Aldorino was crowned at the glittering two-hour pageant in Johannesburg as silver confetti rained down onstage around her. She clapped her hands to her mouth when her name was announced.
