Hi,
A few weeks ago my wife and I had our annual week in Gibraltar. This year however we picked the week that had rain and strong winds most of the time.
We did however have a nice warm and sunny Tuesday afternoon which gave us the opportunity to walk to the top of the rock. The views across to Africa were the best I have ever seen in all the years I have been coming. We spent all afternoon walking and it was very enjoyable.
We had some excellent meals in Gibraltar and I have done a short review for this forum.
We saw Princess Anne in Gibraltar and got some really close up pictures of her and her husband and the Gibraltar First Minister. We saw Anne about four times that day around the town.
On the Wednesday we had tickets booked to go over to Ceuta in North africa. We set off and walked over to the bus station in La Linea and caught the 09.00 bus to Algeciras. The bus trip was great and we arrived in Algeciras at 10.00. It is only a short walk down the street from the bus station to the ferry port, about 10 minutes. The weather in Europe was cloudy, windy but dry.
We caught the 11.00 fast ferry to Ceuta and had an enjoyable crossing, a bit choppy in places.
As soon as we set foot on African soil it started to pour with rain, and apart from one brief interval when the sun came out for 10 minutes and it was warm, it was wet and windy all day.
We didnt really enjoy our trip because of the weather and we only saw limited sites.
We went back to the ferry port to catch the 18.30 ferry and ferries were either cancelled or delayed due to the strong winds. Ours was only delayed thank goodness. We left at 19.30 and had a very very rough crossing to Algeciras which we reached at 20.30.
Guess what, no rain in Europe!! We caught the 21.00 bus back to La Linea and were back in Gibraltar and in a restaurant for 22.00.
An interesting day but wet.
Terry
